The ladies Traditional Gold medal was clinched by dentist Joan Morrison who hails from Lewis but stays in Newton Mearns, near Paisley.
The 46-year-old gave up solo competing for seven years but sings with the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Society choir, better known as the GGs.
With juggling work and a teenage family was “tough fitting this in,” she said.
Mrs Morrison, whose parents live in Knock, Point, originally hails from Carloway where her father was the school headmaster for a while.
She “never expected to get through the qualifying rounds let alone win” because the standard of the rest of the competitors was so high.
She added: “The last time I tried was 2005 in Stornoway when my nerves got the better of me and I vowed I would never do this ever, ever again.
“But I had quite a lot of encouragement from choir members in the GGs and particularly the Lewis and Harris Association - they asked me to sing at their annual gathering this year - and they kept asking “when are you going to try the Trad again.” So I thought I’d give it one last go and I am very happy with the outcome.”
