£100,000 de-icer equipment for Benbecula Airport    24/10/11

Loganair has invested £100,000 in specialised equipment designed to keep the people of the Southern Isles moving throughout the winter months.

This substantial investment will see the first ever de-icing machine located at Benbecula airport which will support the 12 flights in and out of the island each weekday throughout the winter period.

The de-icer will be an essential tool in ensuring all aircrafts are able to fly safely during cold weather. As well as providing the six members of staff with full training on how to work the equipment, Loganair has also refurbished its fuel facilities at the airport.

Jonathan Hinkles, Chief Operating Officer of Loganair, said: “At Loganair, we recognise that we provide lifeline services to the people of Benbecula and the Uists which is why we have made such a significant investment.

“This is the first time we have installed a de-icing unit at the airport but we believe it will allow us to maintain a strong and reliable service throughout the winter months.

“We hope that by making these changes we can continue to transport local people, visitors and business travelers to and from the islands with minimal disruption throughout the winter.”
