Milestone for Western Isles Learning Shop       29/11/11

Western Isles Learning Shop, which provides educational opportunities for people with a wide variety of needs, has reached its tenth anniversary.

MSP Alasdair Allan who attended an event to mark the milestone  said: “The learners who spoke at the event have clearly gained hugely in both confidence and skills as a result of their involvement and in many cases now are in a position to enter the world of work for the first time.

“Both as the local MSP, and as the Minister with responsibility for this aspect of education, I am really proud of the impact which the learning shop has made on the lives of people from the Butt to Barra over the last ten years, in areas as varied as literacy, numeracy and learning English for speakers of other languages.

“The big turnout of learners and their families on Friday, despite the weather problems which unfortunately prevented learners from Uist and Barra joining the event, was testimony to the success of this project and the difference it has made to many individual lives.”
