Wordsmith aims to encourage creative reading   28/11/11

Island writer Ian Stephen has taken up the position of Reader-in-Residence for Western Isles Libraries.

For the next six months, Ian will work with library staff on a series of events and activities aimed at encouraging people to share a love for words, reading and creative writing.

Mr Stephen said: "I'm very happy that the application with Western Isles Libraries has been chosen to be one of the Scotland-wide group of Readers in Residence projects.

“My aim is to complete several publication projects while working to raise awareness of different generations of writing from Scottish Islands, so I'm very much looking forward to meeting with readers who use the excellent library resources throughout the Western Isles."

Ian Stephen was born in Stornoway and still lives there. He studied Education, Drama and Literature at Aberdeen University graduating with a B Ed (hons) with distinction.

Ian worked for the Coastguard Service for many years but has been a full time writer and artist since winning the first Robert Louis Stevenson Award in 1995.
