Gales create weekend disruption               27/11/11

The weekend gales created disruptions in the Western Isles.

Supermarket shelves were bare with the MV Isle of Lewis stuck in Ullapool and Barra shops were also affected when the Lord of the Isles was weather bound in Oban on Saturday.

The Lochboisdale and Castlebay ferry is sailing a special overnight voyage tonight returning to Oban at 7am tomorrow.

The Stornoway freight vessel, MV Isle of Arran has cancelled its overnight run.

Fierce winds resulted in all late Saturday night bus services on Lewis being cancelled.

A deep sea trawler ran into Stornoway for shelter from the rough seas. The 58 metre long, Irish flagged,  MFV Vigilant was on a  voyage from Denmark, where she was fishing for mackerel, to west of Ireland.  It is understood she required repairs for forward railings damaged by heavy seas.
