Breaks in Vodafone signal in Stornoway            4/11/11

Vodafone has received complaints over breaks in its mobile phone signal in the Stornoway area.

Islanders have suffered prolonged periods when the network is down meaning they were unable to make calls or lost contact part way through a conversation.

One local, annoyed at the “outrageous service,” said: They went off on the first day of the Mod and the signal has been out much of the time in Stornoway ever since. I have lost count of the times I have complained to them.”

Vodaphone fixed a fault two weeks ago but the problem has returned.

MP Angus Brendan MacNeil has contacted Vodafone to insist that the fault be rectified urgently.

Angus MacNeil said: “Over the past few weeks, the mobile signal in the Stornoway area has been poor with customers either having a patchy signal or no signal at all.

“I know that Vodafone were aware of the problem and claim to have resolved the matter. However, many constituents tell me that this is not the case and that the signal is still unreliable.

“Vodafone customers are fast becoming frustrated with the service they are receiving. I have contacted Vodafone and asked why the signal in Stornoway is so poor and what they propose to do to restore normal service.”
