Councillors “actively campaigning” against constituents    6/3/13

Sirs,

Please allow me to use this illustrious forum to remind people of what elected councillor Ronnie MacKinnon said almost a year to the day about the Lochboisdale to Mallaig ferry link on this very website.

He stated: “If members of the public can't rely on elected councillors to get our message to the Scottish Government then what hope do we have in succeeding, in what has been an endless battle for a service that our community was promised 10 years ago.” www.hebrides-news.com/south-uist-ferry-controversy-4312.html, 4 Mar 2012.

What is so very different between the Barra to Benbecula airlink and the Mallaig to Lochboisdale ferry?

How can we rely on him and his cohorts to get our message to the government?  How can we rely on councillors who not only refuse to support their constituents but actively campaign against them?

Ronnie MacKinnon, Donnie Steele and David Blaney all voted in favour of scraping an air link that is a designated lifeline service.  Maybe they can take some time out to write an open letter to this website to explain their decision.

If any of them take up the invitation I am sure they will quote percentages and service figures to explain their decision.  Likewise, I’m sure that will make all the difference to the sick pensioner who has to travel by bus and ferry on a rough winter’s day to a hospital they could have previously reached in half an hour by plane.
