Fishermen rescued from capsized boat     22/11/11

Two South Uist fishermen have been rescued after their boat capsized in rough seas in the Minch this afternoon.

The tow men ended up in the chilly water, when their small shellfish boat, the Progress floundered north of Lochboisdale, on the east side of South Uist, where she is owned and based, in strong southerly winds shortly after 1pm.

The men had been working creels in he area and managed to activate a distress call.

Lifejackets kept the men afloat for the twenty minutes until they were plucked out of the sea by different local salmon farm boats, the Anita and Ocean Maid.

Stornoway coastguard helicopter was alerted and Barra RNLI lifeboat also lauched to the emergency.

Coastguards said the fishermen, aged 25 and 31, were assessed by paramedics on the helicopter and though cold were uninjured and none the worse for their ordeal.

They were landed at Lochboisdale and are now recovering at home.
