Thanksgiving Day           28/11/11

Sirs

in recent days schools were off for a long weekend, which coincided with, what is called in North America, Thanksgiving Day, the last Thursday in November.

Its a day that was officially established by Abraham Lincoln, in the middle of the Civil War,but had been previously been held by people, although not a national holiday till Lincoln’s time and was revered and held particularly by people who worked the land.

It is interesting to note that when the Pilgrims first arrived that its original system had been communal farming. Bbut in those early years yields were not good, and then a governor by the name of Bradford decided that he would organise to give each family a section of land for ownership. Seemingly within a year or two they had bumper harvests.

It looks that, even back then as now, private property was productive and people were willing to get things done but at the same time not forgetting their provider, Lord and Master, and to thank him duly for that provisions, worth thinking and praying about.
