Fire alert at Stornoway pub           19/11/11

A extra bucket of coal thrown on the fire on a chilly day resulted in fire crews rushing to a Stornoway town centre pub on Friday. Firemen used chimney rods and a stirrup pump to extinguish the flames roaring up the chimney when called out after lunchtime.

No damage was caused and a thermal camera was used to check for any hidden hotspots so the chimney fire would not reignite.

On Thursday night, a sinking boat at Leverburgh resulted in a callout for the local fire crew. They pumped out the small vessel which was taking in water. The alarm was raised around 8.40pm.
