Frightening ordeal for women               29/9/11

An islander who launched an unprovoked abusive attack on two young women has been penalised by a total of £500.

Ivor Duncan Macleod, 30, of 8 Milkinghill Park, Tong, Lewis, pleaded guilty to three offences at Stornoway Sheriff Court against the woman which took place in the early hours of Sunday 10th July.

Macleod admitted two assaults and also a count of threatening behaviour by making menacing gestures.

Procurator fiscal David Teale said a group of females had left a nightclub and were in a nearby pizza shop in Stornoway town centre.

He said Macleod spat on one on the young women and threw a slur at her.

He pushed her friend in the face and in the chest. He also made slicing gestures to his throat saying “I‘ll knife you.”

Sheriff Colin Scott Mackenzie said a letter from Macleod, who maintained it was a “case of mistaken identity” and giving a curt apology, was insufficient.

The sheriff stressed Macleod put his victims in a “frightening situation.”

Macleod was fined £425 and ordered to pay £75 compensation to his spitting victim.
