£1000 penalty for assault                  17/8/11

A Lewis man has been penalised by £1000 after he attacked an island man on 29 May this year.

Kevin Fraser of 2A Keose Glebe, Lochs, was fined £500 for the assault.

He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation after pleading guilty to the offence when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court today.

Fiscal David Teale said the 26-year-old and others were drunk and turned up at a house in Gleann Dubh, Newmarket, Lewis.

Later, his victim left the premises for a taxi followed by Fraser who ran up to him, butted him and knocked him to the ground.

Then he started kicking him about the head and was pulled off. His victim was taken to hospital.
