Stornoway ferry turns back in violent storm  29/1/13

The Stornoway ferry abandoned her voyage across the Minch in a raging storm tonight.

The MV Hebrides turned back for Ullapool about 90 minutes after departing.

She docked in the Wester Ross port around 8pm.

Most passengers bunked down in the ship’s lounges overnight. Cal Mac’s port staff returned to work to assist any passengers who sought B&B accommodation on shore.

A Cal Mac spokesman said the ship turned back because of high winds in the open sea.

Wednesday’s morning sailing out of Stornoway is now cancelled. The ferry will return from Ullapool at 10.25am tomorrow.
