Knocking down schools          4/7/11

Sirs,

We are well aware of the current scheme that is under way on the new schools building programme in the isles.

But I wonder how wise some of the decisions have been. In Daliburgh, for instance, a really solid building which is in good order is going to be done away with, to put up a steel and metal box of sorts.

I can guarantee if anyone was to come back to Daliburgh in 100 years time and the existing school was left beside the new one, that the old one would be in much better condition than what is presently being built.

The existing school could have done the local area ,especially now with much less children around and with the secondary department closed down.

It would seem that £7 million could have put a great community swimming pool in there and a nice cafe /library unit , where the secondary rooms were, all inclusive. Notwithstanding, that, in my back-to-the-future quick trip for me will justify what has been said above.

It will end up the same as some other buildings that have become a major headache for the community because of the authorities or religious autocracy that made it all happen and would never listen to wise local men telling them of what the consequences of their fantasies would be.

Lets spend other peoples money - that is a very sad and socialist trait and not good maths and logic, as is always the case of course .

Chaneil fhios'm carson tha Comhairle oirbh,'s nach gabh sibh comhairle ann. Tha sin a cunntais munntir nan Eaglaisean a bha gu ma straicail le chuid chaich.

Aonghas Caimbeul,
