Roads re-opened         29/1/13

A number of low-lying coastal roads which were shut due to breaking waves have re-opened.

North Ford, and Eriskay causeways as well as the Stinky Bay road are now open to traffic.

Vehicles are restricted to pass the Braighe on Lewis in convoy with a police escort. It is expected to reopen fully later as is Baleshare causeway.

The roads were closed at the peak of tonight’s very high tide which was whipped up by high winds and caused seas to break over the carriageway.

People are advised not to travel tonight unless their journey is essential.
