Road grit cash 6/2/13
The mild winter means the Comhairle’s gritting budget is unlikely to make a loss this year.
Some £1.243 is earmarked for winter maintenance which includes paying for weather forecasting services and the maintenance ten weather stations across the islands as well as road salt.
So far, only £591,000 has been spent leaving about £652,000 in the kitty.
To date only 3,524 tonnes of grit was spread to date and salt stocks stand at 9,556 tonnes.
