Summer Reading Challenge               20/10/11

Over 100 island children took part in Stornoway Library’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Councillors Archie K Campbell and Annie Macdonald presented each child with a certificate and medal for having successfully completed the library’s Summer Reading Challenge 2011.

The children’s challenge was to read at least six books over the summer holidays, visiting the library regularly and receiving special rewards and stickers for every two books read.

The Summer Reading Challenge is run by public libraries all over the country and in 2010, 760,000 children signed up for the challenge.

This was the first time the Summer Reading Challenge has been held in the Western Isles. The theme this year was ‘Circus Stars’ and all children taking part received a fabulous circus stage when signing up for the challenge, to decorate with their stickers and keep track of all the books they read.
