Public services hit as workers go on strike                  22/11/11

Public services will be disrupted as council and health workers stage a one day strike next week.

Staff are protesting about national proposals to change public sector pensions.

Many schools, council run nurseries, sports centres, libraries and council offices are expected to be shut as a result of the industrial action on 30 November.

Other services including Comhairle buses and bin collections will also be disrupted.

Dispensations have been agreed with the trade unions for not to hit residential homes, home care and emergency services such as Faire.

The health board expect peaceful pickets will be taking place outside healthcare premises on the day

The boards says union members are allowed to peacefully communicate information about the strike action to those crossing picket lines, but those visiting any premises should not feel in any way prevented from entering, or intimidated for doing so.
