Two Stornoway police officers have excelled at the Police Service UK track and field championships.

Overall, Northern Constabulary  scooped the second highest medal tally. Despite having one of the smallest pools of officers in the UK its athletics team won 11 medals sections, competing against 28 other police forces, some with considerably larger officer numbers.

Northern walked away with four Gold medals, three Silver medals and four bronzes from the event held at Solihull in Birmingham.

PC Cameron Ross from Stornoway Police Station is now the UK police title holders for the Men's 400m hurdles.

PC Maureen MacKinnon, Stornoway, won the silver medal in the Women's 100metre race with a time of just over 14 seconds. She also took silver in the women's long jump, missing out on gold by just one centimetre, as well as coming in third in the triple jump.

Team spokesman, Inspector David Ogilvie, said: "This really was an excellent set of results and the team certainly punched way above its weight considering the large pool of athletes other Forces have to choose from.

"We can be very proud of our performance which promotes Northern Constabulary officers at a national level."
