Point Show risk being cancelled            16/1/13

This year’s Point Agricultural Show risks being cancelled as it was not possible to elect a planning committee for the coming year at the Society’s recent Annual General Meeting.

Organisers highlighted there is an urgent need to get office bearers in place at an emergency meeting being called for the end of the month.

The event celebrated its tenth anniversary last summer year with the biggest and best attended event in its history.

The show is in a strong financial position and has invested heavily in equipment and improvements in the showground at Aird. It  enjoys strong support in Point and across Lewis and Harris.

However, due to a low attendance at is annual general meeting in December, it was not possible to elect a committee and office bearers for the 2013 show.

An Extraordinary General Meeting will now take place on Monday 28th January in Tiumpanhead Community Centre at 7.30pm where a committee must be elected to secure the future of the show.

If a committee is not appointed at this meeting, it will be necessary to cancel this year’s event.

A spokesman said: “Please support the Point Agricultural Society by attending the EGM and help us to make the 2013 Point Show the best yet.”
