Two community gyms for Pairc                     15/8/11

Two permanent fitness gyms are being set up in Pairc after the Community Council was gifted gym equipment from the Stornoway Sports Centre.

The gyms being established in Orinsay Village Hall and Kershader Resource Centre will be open between 9am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday.

The equipment includes treadmills, cross trainers, a recline cycle and a hip and thigh exerciser. Other facilities available for use include toilets and kitchen for light snacks. There will be an honesty box to cover the costs of cleaning and maintenance.

Pairc Community Council will oversee the legal and administrative aspects of the project including registration, which must be completed by all users before use of gym.

An induction lesson is required before using the gym equipment and all users must complete induction before using the gym either at the Stornoway or Tarbert Sports Centre.

Induction sessions will also be held at Kershader Resource Centre, the first is this Friday from 7.30pm.

Funding has been obtained from the BIG Lottery 2014 Communities fund to help pay  the first year running costs.
