Cafe opening raises funds for Harris lifeboat          9/12/11

A new café opens at the MacGillivray Centre in Northton, Harris this Saturday.

The former unmanned naturalist interpretive centre named after Scottish naturalist William MacGillivray, has been given a new lease of life thanks to local Harris couple Reuben and Gail.

The official opening party will raise funds for the new Leverburgh's RNLI lifeboat and featuring singer Mata Macdonald.

Local MSP Alasdair Allan will also auction of several top prizes all in aid of the RNLI.

Mr Allan said: “I am delighted that entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Harris, with Reuben and Gail opening such a wonderful new venture making the most of the rising tourist numbers on Harris.

“I am certain this will provide a great service for all the tourists who come to visit the beautiful scenery and wildlife at Northton and also be a great new cafe spot for the local community providing a much welcome all year round service.

“I am delighted that the Harris community is also rallying round to start fundraising for the new RNLI lifeboat coming to  Leverburgh in what will no doubt be a great night showcasing the very best of Hebridean musical talent with Mata Macdonald.”
