Recycle North Uist plastic water bottles       10/10/11

The Comhairle is drafting in extra recycling banks into North Uist to collect the massive amount of plastic containers being issued to households because of the contaminated water supply in the area.

Excess aluminium was added to the Bayhead water network  resulting in a warning to islanders not to drink tap water.

Households from Scolpaig to Knockquien, and the whole of Grimsay are advised not to use it for drinking, preparing food, cooking, preparing babies milk or brushing teeth.

Families are being provided with bottled water and extra bottles have been left at Balranald Church, The Old Church, Bayhead Shop, Clachan Stores and Ardnasgruban Post Box on Grimsay.  These will be continually replenished.

The empty plastic containers can be left at extra bottle recycling banks on Grimsay and at Clachan in addition to the existing provision at Clachan and in Paible.

Anyone travelling in the direction of Sollas will find a recycling skip at Sollas Coop and there is also one next to Taigh Chearsabhagh in Lochmaddy.
