New homes boost for Western Isles 5/3/13
The Western Isles will receive an extra
£688,000 to help families into new social homes, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon
confirmed today.
This new money comes on top of the housing budget already allocated to the islands.
It is part of a total funding package across Scotland of an extra £40 million for housing, which is expected to deliver around 1,000 homes, mainly for social rent, and support up to 700 jobs in construction and related sectors, over the next two years.
The money will be used to help meet the housing needs in the islands.
Nicola Sturgeon said: “This funding is good news for the Western Isles. Across Scotland it will deliver up to 1,000 affordable homes that meet people’s needs, a central focus of our housing polices and a principle that underpins everything we do.
