New Point school is finished on time 10/8/11
The new Point Primary School has been completed and formally handed over today .
The modern education facility which replaces the present three primaries in Point was delivered on time , on budget and to the required quality standard, by the main contractor FMP to the facilities management company FES FM who are now responsible for maintaining the building and school grounds.
The new school replaces aging facilities at Bayble, Knock and Aird Primary Schools and will open to pupils for the new academic term next Thursday, 18th August.
The traditional Point red remains the colour for the new uniform identity. The remains of the old Bayble School will be demolished to construct a new all weather synthetic sports pitch.
An open evening is expected to be held in the coming weeks to allow the community to see inside the new school.
Warren Wright, Operations Manager for FMP said: “FMP are delighted that we have been able to deliver the first two schools on programme and thank everyone involved for their concerted efforts in delivering these fantastic new facilities.”
Cllr Norman Macdonald, Chair of Sgoiltean Ùra, stated: “We are very pleased that two of the six new schools have now been delivered on time and on budget, which in no small way helps to vindicate the often difficult decisions which were taken around their procurement. It is also extremely encouraging that the rest of the schools remain on programme to complete between this summer and next”
Cllr Angus Campbell, Comhairle Leader also noted that “feedback on the first two new schools to be completed has been extremely positive. Moving forward, this will allow the Comhairle to deliver the quality education to which all pupils are entitled and in facilities which are comparable to any on the mainland”
With two of the six WISP facilities now complete, Sir E Scott School remains scheduled for completion in December 2011, West Side Primary School in March 2012 and finally the Nicolson Institute and Daliburgh Primary Schools in July 2012.
