Medical equipment amnesty                       5/8/11

Physiotherapy clients who have been loaned small items of equipment in the past are being asked to return the items to Western Isles Hospital and Ospadal Uibhist agus Bharraigh to ensure that the equipment can continue to be used to benefit other clients.

Clients are often loaned small items of equipment to aid their rehabilitation, such as shoulder pulleys and TENS machines (for pain relief), and are asked to return them to the Physiotherapy Department after a specified period of time.

NHS Western Isles Physiotherapy Manager Sheila Nicolson said: “Often clients forget to return items of equipment or feel embarrassed to return them as they have kept them for longer than advised. We would encourage clients to return them to ensure that others can benefit from their use in the future.

“We would prefer items returned late than not being returned at all, so if you have an item of equipment that has been lent to you that you no longer use, we would appreciate it if you could return it to us as soon as possible.”

Returned items can be dropped off anonymously in the reception areas of Western Isles Hospital or Ospadal Uibhist agus Bharraigh
