MacNeil attacks “reckless withdrawal of coastguard tugs 27/9/11
SNP MP Angus Brendan MacNeil has reacted with anger at the removal of the coastguard emergency towing vessel.
Angus MacNeil said: “It is nothing short of reckless that the UK government has taken the decision to remove the emergency towing vessel from our waters.
“The Transport Select Committee in Westminster condemned these plans and called on Ministers to think again.
“I called on the UK government to undertake a risk assessment on the impact and to abandon plans to remove these vessels. Local authorities have also strenuously lobbied the UK government.”
Mr Macneil added: “To add insult to injury the vessel based in Stornoway seems to have been removed a week early.
“Our coastline has been left vulnerable, with the winter approaching, this is a careless act by the UK government.”
