Macmillan asks islanders to support coffee fundraiser      16/7/11

Leading cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support is encouraging everyone in the Western Isles to join the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 30 September and help make raise £8.5m to make it their biggest ever.

Macmillan Fundraising Manager Shannon Hindmarch said: “We are determined to make this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning our biggest ever! What better way to toast Macmillan than to sign up and get together with friends, eat cake, raise a glass (or mug) and have fun whilst helping to raise £20,000 in the Western Isles”.

Shannon added: “The great thing about this event is that you can put your own twist on it and make sure it works for you. Some people hold just a small event with friends, while others go all out and organise a big community party. Every pound raised matters so we really hope even more people with sign up to hold a coffee morning this year.”

Whether it’s a coffee morning at work, an afternoon tea party with the girls or a lively curry night at the rugby club (it doesn’t have to be on the Friday), each World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event, no matter how small or large, will help Macmillan make a real difference to people affected by cancer.

Two million people in the UK are currently living with cancer, and one in three will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime. The money raised from the event will be used to fund Macmillan’s support services for people with cancer and their families. These services include specialist nurses and doctors, a nurse-run support line, and grants for cancer patients with money problems.
