Keep rioters down south             22/8/11

Sir,

I read the article about the petition to send London rioters to the Hebrides  somewhat with disgust.

What do people down South think the Outer Hebrides are? How dare they even suggest such an outrageous action and how dare they have the front to inflict such a path on the people of the Islands.

All in all the majority of people in the islands are inhabited by decent hard working people who enjoy their rural life and have chosen to live here to be cut off from people like those who have caused the recent riots and troubles in England.

Being English I am sometimes appalled at the behaviour of some of these people, but a lot of the blame should be laid on the doorstep of the Government and the economic climate of today. Everyone is struggling in today's economic climate and the people in the Hebrides are on exception.

As far as I can see only small minded people would even consider signing such an e-petition and I hope the Scottish Government tell the Ministry and Prime Minister where to get off in no uncertain terms. Scotland has their own portion of an undesirable element, but we don't suggest sending them off down South.

By the way, a little PS to the author of this petitioner, Richard Miller, who obviously thinks we all live in caves, walk around in bear skins and draw water from a well, we have all the facilities you enjoy down south, but with the luxury of more idyllic surroundings, freedom and peace.

Whoever in the Ministry of Justice allowed this outrageous rubbish to be released should be bought to book and publicly offer an apology to the people of the islands for their insensitive behaviour. The only light this petitioner should have seen is a match.

My message to Mr Miller and the Prime Minister (and I am sure most people will agree) is - sort out your own problems, we who have CHOSEN to live in the Hebrides have enough of our own to contend with.
