Loganair assurances after plane emergency        29/9/11

Loganair is seeking to reassure island air travellers after the same plane had to make two emergency  landings in six weeks.

A full scale emergency was scrambled at Strornoway airport when the Benbecula plane reported a problems.

The Saab 340 plane landed on one engine after the pilot shut the other down when it suffered a mechanical fault. Four passengers and three crew were onboard.

A Loganair spokesperson said: "The aircraft was subject to a full engineering investigation following the 27 July incident and a number of engine components were replaced and tested prior to the aircraft returning to service.

"Between 27 July and 28 September the aircraft has conducted 333 routine flights and carried 6,900 passengers.”

Loganair said it would be “premature to assume any link between the two incidents” until the full facts of yesterday’s occurrence are known.
