A cruise ship passenger has been taken to hospital in Stornoway  by Lochinver RNLI today.

The lifeboat was on steaming to Stornoway slip-way for her six-monthly scheduled clean and paint, when Stornoway Coastguards requested her assistance with the evacuation of a passenger from a cruise liner.

The 4,000 tonne MV Crown Princess was heading to Belfast when a passenger became ill and required urgent hospital attention.

The lifeboat diverted and was alongside the cruise ship at 9am. The passenger, together with his partner and one of the ship’s medical team were transferred onboard.

An ambulance was waiting at the quayside when the Lochinver crew arrived in Stornoway half an hour later.
