TV company apply to film Liam Aitchison murder trial         24/1/13

A documentary TV company has applied for permission to film the trial of two island youths accused of murdering 16-year-old Liam Aitchison on Lewis.

It is alleged that Jonathan Alexander Mackinnon of Stornoway, and Stefan Norquay Macleod Millar of Carloway, Lewis, both aged 22 years, killed the South Uist teenager in Steinish, outside Stornoway, in November 2011.

Windfall Films has asked the Scottish Court Service to let cameras record what happens inside the court during the three week case which is due to commence in Glasgow High Court on 25 February.

It  is understood the recording would be used in a documentary series about Scotland’s courts to be shown on Channel 4.

A hearing to consider the filming application is due to be held before Judge Lord Kinclaven next week.
