A young woman described as a role model has been named student of the year at Lews Castle College.
Angela Maclean, 22, of Stornoway, has shown determination in her studies to advance from national certificate to higher national level, gaining an HNC in early education and childcare. She is hoping to progress on to the degree course in child and youth studies, and ultimately wants to become a primary school teacher.
Tutor Morag Maclean commented: “Angela has proved to be a consistently high achiever, setting high standards for herself and working diligently to ensure they are met. At all times she has worked effectively as an independent learner by managing her workload and family life in a highly organised and structured manner. She is a role model to other students."

She said: “I have really enjoyed my studies, especially the work placements at Stornoway Primary School and the college nursery, An Cotan. It’s been such a good experience and a great privilege, and will be worth all the hard work if I can achieve my ambitions. I’ve had great support from my partner, Angus, and the college.”
Angela wins £100 as the Lews Castle College UHI student of the year and will be presented with her award at the college’s graduation ceremony on 26th August, the first since the formal creation of the University of the Highlands and Islands in February.
