Lewis Camanachd stays in shinty league                  10/12/11

Lewis shinty team Lewis Camanachd has gained permanent league entry in the Marine Harvest North Division League.

This was confirmed by the Camanachd Association’s board of directors.

Lewis Camanachd played in North Division 3 this season, the first time ever that a team from the Islands played in the shinty league.

They were allowed in on a trial basis, but after this week’s  decision this has now been made permanent.

SNP MP Angus MacNeil has congratulated the club. He said: “I am glad that the Camanachd Association came to this decision as Lewis Camanachd fulfilled all their league obligations over the past season, and played all their games home and away.

“I was privileged myself to watch their historic first league encounter at Shawbost in May, in front of a large home crowd, and I have been closely following their progress all season.

“It is a great achievement for all those involved with Lewis Camanachd, and I hope now that the club goes from strength to strength over the next few seasons.”
