Families evacuated as house threatens to collapse      30/1/13

Families were evacuated in Leverburgh after a number of houses were at risk at the height of the storm.

High winds caused the gable end of a semi-detached house on Dunmore Crescent to collapse.

Windows of the Swedish timber house were also blown in by the fierce winds.

The Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue service said adjacent properties were at risk so neighbours had to leave their homes.

They are being put up with friends and relatives.

Leverburgh fire crews made the scene safe and assisted in evacuating the properties after the alarm was raised at 9.50pm last night.
