Revamping land reform 19/7/11
Sir,
Alasdair Allan MSP refers (Land reform law requires revamp says Allan, Hebrides News 10/7/11) to the West Harris community facing legal obstacles to its acquisition because the land was government owned.
I’m not sure what these were except that the community did have to face the obstacle of raising the purchase price of £59,000 demanded by the Scottish Government.
This was not a hurdle faced on Rum where the SG (in the guise of Scottish Natural Heritage) donated to the community there land worth £1.1 million free of charge!
Perhaps Dr. Allan could enquire into the reasons for that apparent discrimination against his constituents as well.
