Labour Party “let down” public sector workers      10/12/11

Sirs,

I refer to Archie Harper's letter of 4th December, which stated that "I have no doubt had the Labour Party held onto power, they too would have subjected public sector pensions to similar cuts".

Now we have the proof.

The reaction by Labour MPs to a House of Commons motion by the SNP condemning the massive attack on the living standards of millions of the lowest-paid workers in Britain was to sit on their hands and abstain.

Speaking after the vote, SNP Work and Pensions spokesperson Dr Eilidh Whiteford MP said:  “Instead of uniting against these punitive reforms, it is incredible that Labour have chosen to let the Tories off the hook and let public sector workers down by sitting on their hands.

“The millions of workers who marched through the streets last week will be aghast that Labour MPs have refused to even walk through the lobbies for them.

“This was the first debate and vote since the UK Government announced its plans, and it should have been a moment when MPs from all parties united against these Tory cuts.”

Public sector Trades Union members who pay the political levy to the Labour Party should be wondering just where their money is going.
