Kenneth Street parking ban proposal  10/2/13

Cars may be banned from parking on part of Kenneth Street in Stornoway town centre.

Double yellow lines may be installed in a stretch of the street running along the side of An Lanntair arts centre, from South Beach to Francis Street.

If it goes ahead then the narrow pavements would be widened on both sides to make it safer for people to walk. The road would also be resurfaced and tarred.

A council report points out Kenneth Street is a busy link road providing access to many local shops and domestic properties.

The report says the road is narrow along its whole length while the 75 metres section at An Lanntair needed numerous repairs over the past few years.

As well as the failing surface the narrow pavements meaning people often have to move onto the road “leading to some concerns.”
