Jail warning                    15/9/11

A 25-year-old Lewis resident who breached his bail conditions on a raft of occasions was warned he faced prison if he did it again.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court, Patrick Nolan accepted he broke a drinking ban as well as a curfew imposed by the court at an earlier appearance.

Procurator fiscal David Teale indicated he left his curfew address on 12th August and was not present during the following three nights.

When arrested a breath test showed he had been drinking in breach of his bail.

A week later he turned up drunk at Stornoway police station

Lawyer Kevin Macpherson said Nolan had “turned to alcohol” after two years of abstinence when his relationship broke up in July.

Sheriff David Sutherland imposed a community payback order including one year’s supervision and 180 hours of unpaid work. He was also placed on a curfew between 9pm and 6am nightly for the next nine months.

He warned Nolan he faced up to two years in jail if he breached it again.
