I am now retired after spending all my working life in this community, engaged in accountancy, fi nance and business. I am married to Kay who had a career in nursing, and retired as Infection Control Specialist Nurse with WIHB. Kay is the Chair of the local Cancer Research committee. We have twin sons Gregor and Roger who would like to live here, but have to go where the work is …… on the mainland and abroad.
I was born and brought up in Newmarket and went to Laxdale School in the days of Maggie ‘Carthur. After we got married we lived on Bakers Road for nine years, and then moved here to Matheson Road in 1978.
I have always had a commitment to community service and have served on various committees over the years including Red Cross, Alzheimers and the CCTV company. At the moment I am treasurer of our Bowling Club and President of the Rotary Club.
I have been interested in supporting our young people ever since my work with the
Youth Training Scheme, so if elected I will support the Comhairle’s commitment to
enterprise in education, modern apprenticeships and business start-
I will support the investment and improvement in our roads, causeways, ferries and facilities throughout the islands which all contribute to making our community better, better to live in, better to visit. I will support the campaigns to retain the original RET scheme and the Air Discount Scheme together with the fair fuel prices initiative, all of which can make a real difference to our economy.
I will support the objectives of the University of the Highlands and Islands which will in the long term create opportunities for economic developments suited to our particular environment in the Outer Hebrides.
I am standing as an Independent Candidate because I believe that national political objectiveshave no place in the administraton of local government.
My telephone number is 702843 if you wish to discuss any issues or require transport on polling day. I wish to devote my knowledge, my experience and my time to the work of the Comhairle, and I would appreciate your vote to elect me as a Councillor for Stornoway North.
