WHY ME?

I have business experience having set up two local businesses in Stornoway.

I also have been involved with many community organisations within the Western Isles on a volunteer basis such as:–

  • Western Isles Chairperson and local adviser of Young Enterprise Scotland
  • Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) as both a local panel member and business adviser
  • Volunteer Team Leader for the Hebridean Celtic Festival
  • Rotary Club of Stornoway
  • Stornoway and District Round Table
  • Laxdale Community Association Treasurer
  • Lewis Chess Club

WHY STORNOWAY NORTH?

I have lived in the Steòrnabhagh A Tuath (Stornoway North) ward all my life and attended Laxdale School and the Nicolson Institute. My wife Amy works in the Gaelic industry. She is a member of the Laxdale Gaelic Choir and a volunteer with the Mod, both local and national.

I pledge to work with the other successful candidates and have a good understanding of the issues that affect us all and would like the opportunity to constructively represent the residents of the ward to the best of my abilities.

WHY INDEPENDENT?

I stand as an Independent and I am not affiliated with any political party.

I believe that there should be no party politics at a local level. I do not wish to be put in a position that would require me to put a party political view before the needs of the people of my own ward.

VOTING SYSTEM

Our ward Steòrnabhagh a Tuath (Stornoway North) has a total of ten candidates standing for four seats.

The election will be conducted under the voting system called the `Single Transferable Vote’ (STV).

Electors can rank the candidates on the ballot paper in order of preference – by putting a “1” in the voting box next to their first choice, “2” in the voting box next to their second choice, “3” in the voting box next to their third choice and so on.  Electors can vote for as many or as few candidates as they wish.
