Hurricane force winds affects islands 28/12/12
Hurricane force winds are expected to affect exposed areas of the Western Isles later
tonight and into Saturday morning.
The Hebrides are getting the brunt of a deepening low pressure system which is moving
northward.
The gale affecting the islands this afternoon is intensifying and forecast to increase
up to a violent storm in open areas tonight
Short bursts of high speed winds may reach 80mph in places, particularly in Uist
and Barra. Rain and wintry showers are expected. It will remain blustery into Sunday.
