Warning of hurricane winds                 30/11/11

Hurricane strength winds are set to hit the Western Isles tonight warns the Met Office.

Islanders should batten down the hatches for southerly gusts of speeds up to 80 mph going into tomorrow morning.

The gale which is moving in from the west will develop during Wednesday evening reaching severe gale overnight.  The public should be prepared for travel disruption.

There may be some damage to infrastructure and power supplies due to the severe gale force winds.

Winds will ease during Thursday afternoon but still be strong to gale force.
