Jewellery firm bought out by workers     22/7/11

Hebridean Jewellery has been bought out by its staff after the present owners retired.

The deal secures the 14 jobs at South Uist business which specialises in Celtic jewellery and has shops in Stornoway and Portree.

The new employee-owners now plan to expand internet sales particularly in America.

Many staff have worked there for over 20 years.

Outgoing owner John Hart said: “After 35 years we were ready for retirement. However we wanted to see the company sustained in the local community and to continue prospering.

“We are delighted that the business is now owned by our former employees as it could not be in better hands.

CDS, Baxi Partnership and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have given advice on the employee takeover.
