“Drunken party” ended up in assault             5/1/12

A man who turned violent after losing his neck chain at a party in Harris was found guilty of assault after trial at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

James Kearns of 132 Clubberhill Road, Knightswood, Glasgow had denied any wrong doing.

Giving evidence the female host said it had “got out of hand” and agreed Kearns was wound up and angry after some friends return to her house in South Harris one Saturday night in July.

It included 33-year-old Kearns who lived on Harris at the time.  She said he was “frantically” searching for the lost piece of jewellery which mean a lot to him.

She said he would not listen to reason and wait for daylight to look for the chain but “wanted to find it there and then.”

The host  told the court five persons got involved in a confrontation.

The court heard he punched another partygoer on the face and left him with a split lip.

He also behaved in threatening manner and was shouting and swearing

His solicitor Ken Sinclair called it a “drunken party” and said his client was “less than sober.”

Kearns had his sentence deferred for six months to be of good behaviour.
