Breakaway North Uist pastor induction            4/11/11

Rev Kenneth Stewart is being inducted as the minister of Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church (RPCS) tonight.

The induction takes place in Milngavie Hall, Station Road, Milngavie at 7pm.

A number of elders and deacons will also be officially ordained.

Mr Stewart, who hails from Grimsay, North Uist joined the RPCS in Spring after quitting the Free Church in protest of its introduction of hymns and music.

Mr Stewart previously criticised the Free Church for “abandoning its constitutional heritage” leaving him with no choice but to depart.

The former pastor of Dowanvale Free, based in the heart of the Gaelic-speaking, Western Isles diaspora in Partick, in the west end of Glasgow, feels the manner of the radical modernisation vote breached Free Church law and weaken its integrity.

Contrary to the denomination he was born into, sticking to its historic stance of exclusive psalm singing is also a major plus point for the RPCS.

He previously highlighted the long, yet clean, history “untainted by splits, divisions and schisms“ steered him towards the Reformed Presbyterians.

The Glasgow RPCS holds a morning and evening service on Sundays as well as a Wednesday evening Bible study.
