Contributions of mid-20th century clothing are being sought for in the upcoming Na Mo Chuid Aodaich project taking place in Glasgow next month.

The event is an expansion of the award-winning formula which proved so successful on Lewis in 2009, netting two awards at the recent Scottish Events Awards.

This time around Proiseact nan Ealan have extended the scope of the project, which is to take place in various other locations around Scotland. The drama element of the fashion show is a period piece written by Christeen Combe under the guidance of Chrisella Ross.

It depicts a light-hearted tale of two ladies in 1940s Glasgow, told with the distinctly Highland flavour of those migrants who made their living in the city in the previous century.

The project is appealing for any contributions of clothing from attics, closets and bottom drawers to be loaned for the duration of the project, during which they will have new life breathed into them by models during the fashion show.

It is hoped that the response from the city will be as overwhelming as it was for the previous project, which unearthed a wealth of wedding dresses and high fashion gems from church hats, uniforms and Victorian underwear to ball gowns, 1960’s Mary Quant outfits and elegant contemporary designs.

Superstars of the Gaelic world such as Cathy  “Bhan”  Macdonald, Rhoda Macdonald, Kenna Campbell Tilly McLure, Mina Smith, Patsi Mackenzie, Jo Macdonald and Anne Lorne Gillies have already contributed several beautiful articles of clothing which were featured in the publicity brochure, which is available from the organizers.

The shows in Lewis raised a staggering £12,000 for Crossroads Care, and the Glasgow show will be raising money for the Beatson Oncology Centre Fund which provides care to those in need at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

The show will be taking place at Glasgow University Union on December 10th. Anyone wishing to provide clothing, assist on the evening or purchase tickets should contact An Leanag on 0141 339 2022.
