Gales disrupt Royal National Mod          19/10/11

A Force Eight gale disrupted numerous Mod competitors getting to the Mod last night.

The Stornoway ferry was stormbound in Ullapool after the evening sailing was cancelled due to very rough seas.

The lunchtime boat arrived about 40 minutes behind schedule with one of the Mod adjudicators, Anne Lorne Gillies , onboard

Competitors stuck at Ullapool were diverted to catch the MV Hebrides departing from Skye while An Comunn sent two buses to Tarbert last night to pick up the weary travellers last night.

Others used mobile phone to book plane tickets and rushed back to Inverness to catch the last flights to Lewis.

Some hopefuls for the gold medal events were amongst those coming from the mainland and they arrived in time for today’s qualifying competitions.

In the event there was no serious effect on the Mod as the bad weather subsided this morning. Some competitions The absence of today’s morning ferry from meant delays for Tollcross Primary School Choir  who were scheduled to return home early today after performing in Tuesday’s children’s events.  

Today’s Harris ferry  also ended up being booked up with Stornoway passengers changing plans to go via Skye instead.

The Oban to Castlebay and Lochboisdale ferry was also cancelled with a replacement service leaving Oban at 6.30am this morning.
