Skills development for new Gaelic writers          19/10/11

A new development scheme for new Gaelic writers has been launched by the Gaelic Books Council.

The New Gaelic Writers Awards 2012, a collaborative project between Scottish Book Trust and the Gaelic Books Council, is now open to applications.

As part of this programme two new Gaelic writers will receive grants of £2,000 each and expert advice regarding their work. They will be given the opportunity to participate in training courses and advisory sessions, and to develop links with a publisher or literary agent.

Depending on progress, they will also have an opportunity to be mentored by an established author, with a view to advancement towards professional development and publication.

The scheme is open to Gaelic writers of every genre (prose, poetry, drama, biography, etc) on condition that they have not previously published a book, and will not be participating in full-time education during 2012.
