Over 130 Gaelic delegates, incorporating nursery, primary and secondary teachers and quality improvement officers from all over Scotland, gathered at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness for ‘An t-Alltan’ (The Stream) 2011, the teachers’ conference organised by Stòrlann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig (The National Gaelic Resource Agency) to provide continuing professional development through a range of seminars.

Teachers also had the opportunity to hear keynote addresses from Antonella Sorace, Professor of Developmental Linguistics at Edinburgh University and Joan Esson, Gaelic Inspector at Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education, as well as information sharing sessions from the BBC education team and the Scottish Qualification Authority.

Delegates also had the opportunity of sharing good practice with their peers and colleagues and contributing to developments in Gaelic Medium Education.

The eve of conference reception was addressed by Dr. Alasdair Allan, Minister for Lifelong Learning with responsibility for Gaelic and Scots, who also launched new Gaelic globes which will be distributed to all schools and nurseries providing Gaelic across Scotland.

The conference was formally opened by Joan MacKinnon, Director of Education and Children’s Services at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Chairperson of the Stòrlann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig Board.

Thàinig còrr is 130 riochdaire Gàidhlig cruinn còmhla aig Taigh-òsta Dhruim Athaisidh airson an Alltain 2011, co-labhairt Stòrlann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig do thidsearan. Fhuair tidsearan sgoil-àraich, bun-sgoile agus àrd-sgoile agus oifigearan dearbhadh càileachd bho air feadh Alba, leasachadh dreuchdail proifeiseanta air a lìbhrigeadh ann an sreath sheiminearan.

Bha cothrom aca cuideachd òraidean a chluinntinn bho Antonella Sorace, Àrd-ollamh Cànanachas Leasachaidh aig Oilthigh Dhùn Èideann, agus bho Joan Esson, Neach-sgrùdaidh na Banrigh airson Gàidhlig, cho math ri seiseanan fiosrachaidh còmhla ri sgioba foghlaim BBC Alba agus Ùghdarras Theisteanas na h-Alba.

Bha cothrom cuideachd aig riochdairean deagh chleachdadh a roinn còmhla ri co-obraichean, agus cur ri leasachaidhean ann am Foghlam tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

Bhruidhinn an t-Oll Alasdair Ailean, am Ministear airson Ionnsachadh Fad-bheatha le uallach airson Gàidhlig agus Albais, aig cuirm ron a’ Cho-labhairt agus chuir e cruinne ùr Gàidhlig air bhog an sin.

Thèid an cruinne a sgaoileadh gu na sgoiltean agus sgoiltean-àraich gu lèir an Alba sa bheil Gàidhlig ga toirt seachad. Chaidh a’ cho-labhairt fhèin fhosgladh le Seonag NicFhionghuin, Stiùiriche Foghlaim Comhairle nan Eilean Siar agus Cathraiche Bòrd-stiùiridh Stòrlann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig.
